Governor Sindh Visits Press Museum to Review Journalism Heritage

Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi visited the Sindh Press Museum near Governor House with Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Jam Ikramullah Dharejo on Wednesday.

The governor reviewed the museum’s collection of historic printing machines, equipment and artifacts. The visit focused on the development of journalism and printing in Sindh.

Principal Secretary to Governor Sindh Dr. Syed Saif-ur-Rehman and other officials also accompanied the delegation.

Governor Reviews Historic Printing Equipment

During the visit, Governor Hashmi inspected rare printing machines and equipment once used to prepare printing ink. He also examined artifacts, historic photographs and material documenting the evolution of printing.

Traditional printing methods also featured during the visit. Museum officials explained the different stages involved in the process.

The governor and the provincial minister later watched a documentary about the history of paper. The film traced its development from ancient times to the modern era and explained the objectives of the Sindh Press Museum.

Museum Preserves 1843 Printing Heritage

Officials briefed the delegation about the museum’s historical significance. According to the briefing, the East India Company established the historic printing press in 1843.

Governor Hashmi also tried his hand at traditional printing. He used one of the museum’s historic machines during the visit.

Governor Stresses Importance of History

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Hashmi said understanding history can help people make better decisions about the future.

“We should keep our history in view while making decisions about the future,” he said.

He described the Press Museum as an important centre for preserving the history of journalism and printing. The governor added that the museum can help younger generations understand major periods in the region’s history.

Preserving historical heritage, he stressed, remains a national responsibility. Future generations should have opportunities to learn from the experiences of the past.

Students Can Explore Journalism History

Governor Hashmi also highlighted the educational value of the museum. He said visits by students can help them understand the development of journalism and printing technology.

Such educational centres can support the intellectual and academic development of young people. They can also connect students with important aspects of the country’s cultural and professional history.

Minister Calls Museum an Important Heritage Centre

Earlier, the Press Museum in-charge briefed the governor and provincial minister about the museum’s objectives and collection.

The official explained that the museum remains open to the public. Students from different educational institutions also visit as part of study tours.

During these visits, students learn about historic printing presses, machines, their uses and other printing equipment.

Provincial Minister Jam Ikramullah Dharejo described the museum as an important centre for preserving journalism and printing history. He stressed the need to introduce younger generations to such historical heritage.
