Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has called for stronger preventive measures to protect human lives and reduce workplace accidents.

He said authorities and institutions must identify risks before accidents occur. He also stressed the need to strengthen safety systems at factories, construction sites and other workplaces.

The Governor expressed these views while addressing the 9th HS&E Excellence Annual Conference & Awards 2026.

Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi said workers, fishermen and ordinary citizens all deserve effective safety protection. He noted that several sectors still lack adequate safety arrangements for workers.

Meanwhile, fishermen face serious risks at sea. Therefore, authorities and relevant organisations should provide them with essential safety equipment and proper emergency training.

The Governor also called for wider safety awareness beyond industrial workplaces. He said households should also adopt basic safety practices.

In particular, women and children should learn how to prevent accidents and respond during emergencies. He added that every building should have appropriate firefighting equipment to limit damage during fires.

Furthermore, the Governor urged society to focus on prevention rather than waiting for accidents to happen. He called for accident prevention and emergency preparedness to become part of educational curricula.

He also recommended year-round awareness campaigns and practical training programmes. Such measures, he said, can help people respond more effectively during emergencies.

Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi stressed that protecting human lives is a shared responsibility. The government alone cannot achieve this goal.

Instead, industries, businesses, educational institutions and citizens must work together. Coordinated safety measures can help identify risks and prevent avoidable accidents.

At the conclusion of the conference, Governor Sindh distributed awards to institutions for their outstanding performance in health, safety and environment.

The awards recognised organisations that demonstrated strong commitment to improving health, safety and environmental standards.
