ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the government announced a significant cut in petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) prices for the next fortnight. Petrol will now cost Rs269.43 per liter, following a reduction of Rs6.17 per liter. Diesel prices have been lowered by Rs10.86 per liter, bringing the new price to Rs272.77 per liter.

Additionally, the prices of kerosene oil and light diesel oil (LDO) have also decreased. Kerosene oil will now cost Rs177.39 per liter, down from Rs183.71, a reduction of Rs6.32 per liter. LDO will be priced at Rs156.72 per liter after a Rs5.72 cut.

The Ministry of Finance issued the notification following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s approval. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) adjusts consumer prices based on international market fluctuations and exchange rate variations.

This price adjustment follows recent increases; in the previous two fortnights, petrol and HSD prices had risen by Rs7.45 and Rs9.56 per liter, respectively, and by Rs9.99 and Rs6.18 per liter in mid-July.
