Google Hosts Think Apps 2026 to Boost Pakistan’s Global App and Gaming Industry

Think Apps 2026 highlights AI-driven growth for Pakistan’s app industry.
Google hosted Think Apps 2026 at Lahore Fort, bringing together leading Pakistani developers and global industry experts. The event explored how artificial intelligence (AI) can help local studios grow internationally and build sustainable businesses.
The UNESCO-listed heritage site provided a backdrop for discussions about Pakistan’s digital future. Participants explored ways to strengthen digital exports and compete in global markets.
According to Google, products developed by Pakistani creators generated 4.6 billion downloads worldwide over the past 12 months. This reach creates opportunities for the country’s app and gaming industry. Meanwhile, advances in AI are opening new paths for innovation and expansion.

Industry experts presented practical AI tools, growth strategies and monetisation models. These solutions can streamline production and improve user engagement. They can also help studios reach valuable international markets.
Pakistan’s App Industry Expands Globally
Pakistan’s app and gaming industry has grown significantly. Google says the sector now supports more than 30,000 professionals, compared with fewer than 30 people in its early days.
Local studios are also reaching audiences worldwide. Game District and Funsol are examples of companies developing products for international markets.
Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Cluster Director for Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand and Frontier Markets, praised the talent and ambition of Pakistani developers.
He said Google aims to accelerate the industry’s progress through advanced AI capabilities. These tools can help studios create valuable products and build sustainable businesses. Qureshi also highlighted their potential to strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global digital economy.
AI Creates New Growth Opportunities
Developers face rising competition and higher user acquisition costs. AI can help address these challenges by accelerating coding and improving creative production. It can also support applications designed around changing user needs.
However, technology alone does not guarantee success. Strong products and engaging user experiences remain essential for long-term growth.
Google outlined its Build, Yield and Scale roadmap to support developers at different stages. The approach combines product development, audience growth and monetisation.
Google Cloud AI can help studios develop products and improve workflows. Meanwhile, Google Ads and AdMob offer tools for user acquisition and revenue generation.
Developers can also explore new categories and international audiences. Google Play, with more than three billion monthly active users, provides access to a substantial global market.
Google Invests in Pakistan’s Digital Future
Google also highlighted initiatives to prepare Pakistan’s next generation of developers.
The company has pledged to train 100,000 developers in AI by 2028. This initiative aims to strengthen the skills needed to build next-generation apps and games.
In addition, Google plans to enable the local production of 500,000 Chromebooks. The initiative could broaden access to technology for digital education.
Online safety remains another area of focus. Through its Digital Pasban programme, Google says it has delivered online safety training to 200,000 families.
These efforts address several needs, including digital skills, access to technology and online safety. Together, they aim to help young Pakistanis participate in the digital economy at home and abroad.
Think Apps 2026 highlighted the potential of AI, local talent and global platforms to support Pakistan’s app and gaming sector. Continued investment in skills, product quality and user engagement will remain important as local studios pursue sustainable international growth.
