Karachi: A devastating fire in Karachi’s Shah Faisal Colony Number 3 on Wednesday night has tragically claimed the life of 55-year-old Sirajuddin. The blaze, which started in an oil shop, quickly spread to the residential building. Thanks to the quick action of Rescue 1122 teams, the fire was brought under control, and the cooling process has begun. Rescue workers also saved several people who had sought refuge on the rooftop.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi, Tawheed Rehman Memon, revealed that the fire was ignited by a cigarette discarded near an illegal petrol shop. Although action had been taken against such shops before, this particular establishment had been issued a court order just two months ago.
In response to the tragedy, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has called for a crackdown on illegal petrol sellers and instructed officials to ensure public safety. He also requested a comprehensive report once the situation is fully under control. This incident underscores the urgent need for better fire safety measures in Karachi’s buildings.
