LAHORE, Pakistan – June 18, 2025 – The Agriculture Department Punjab and its strategic partner, the Food Security and Agriculture Center of Excellence (FACE), a Not-for-Profit organization, today commemorated their successful collaboration in a ceremony held in
Lahore.
This partnership marks a significant step forward in modernizing farming practices across Punjab. This collaboration is designed to bolster the capacity of field officers in advanced crop management and the adoption of AI-based agriculture technologies.
Key initiatives include training and capacity building for field officers on crucial topics such as Crop Yield Increase, Satellite Data utilization, Drone-based agriculture applications, and specialized crop-specific seminars. To ensure world-class training, FACE has enlisted the expertise of international agriculture specialists .
A critical component of this initiative is the deployment of Digital Pest Traps at 60 sites. This innovative technology facilitates the early detection and identification of pests, which is vital for effective crop protection, especially considering that Pakistan losses 20% to 30% crop productivity to pest attacks.
Furthermore, FACE has inducted a batch of 30 agriculture university students and is providing them with three month paid internship and placing them with Agriculture Extension in Punjab. The students will gain invaluable on-field experience through this exposure.
FACE has also provided laptops to agriculture department to enable access to digital agriculture features such as crop monitoring and the utilization of satellite data for crop monitoring.
The celebratory ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including the Secretary Agriculture, Field Officers, representatives from academia, farmers, and the management of FACE.
