A sight has emerged on the red surface of Mars that has surprised scientists and space enthusiasts around the world. Images released by NASA show a structure that looks like the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, and is claimed to be about the same size. The discovery has once again raised the question of whether an ancient civilization ever existed on Mars. The mysterious structure was spotted in Candor Chasma, a vast canyon system on Mars, which is part of the Valles Marineris canyon, a region that covers about a quarter of Mars. The images, which went viral on social media, have fueled debate, especially when some experts have called it a possible artificial structure. Filmmaker Brian Dodds also compared the structure to the Great Pyramid of Egypt, saying that the discovery raises many questions. Claims of pyramid-like structures on Mars have also been made in the past. Scientists first identified such shapes in the 1970s, while another researcher highlighted this particular structure in 2001. Some people even claimed that it could be a sign of another creature, and even some secret documents mentioned pyramids on Mars. However, when this mysterious “pyramid” was examined in detail using modern scientific equipment and high-resolution images, the reality turned out to be completely different. According to experts, it is not an artificial structure but the result of natural processes. Billions of years of erosion, wind intensity, landslides and other geological factors on the surface of Mars gave rise to this shape. Scientists say that such structures are actually called “positive relief knobs”, that is, the rocky parts that remain after the surrounding soil has disappeared. Although this structure looks like a regular pyramid at first glance, upon closer inspection its surface is uneven, the edges are irregular and the structure is unbalanced, which is unlike any man-made building. Experts also pointed to another reason for this interesting misconception, called “pareidolia,” the human mind’s natural tendency to look for familiar objects in random shapes, such as faces in clouds or buildings in mountains. Thus, this sensational story of the “pyramid” on Mars finally turned out to be a natural fact, but it proved once again that space is still full of secrets. Mars not only surprises man with its amazing geographical structure, but also opens up new avenues of knowledge and exploration.
