Child rights champion Ayesha Raza Farooq inspires Teach For Pakistan Fellows on public service leadership
NCRC chairperson urges future educators to embrace ethical leadership, evidence-based policymaking and community engagement to drive lasting social change.
Child Rights took centre stage as Ayesha Raza Farooq, Chairperson of the National Commission on the Rights of Child (NCRC), addressed participants in Teach For Pakistan’s Learning to Lead series during the organisation’s Training Institute 2026. Speaking to more than 85 Fellows preparing to begin teaching in underserved public schools, she highlighted the role of ethical leadership and public service in building stronger institutions and improving outcomes for children across Pakistan.

In a conversation with Teach For Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Khadija Bakhtiar, Farooq shared lessons from her experience in public policy, governance and child rights advocacy, encouraging the next generation of educators to become agents of sustainable change.
Leadership through public service
Drawing on the theme “Transforming Systems: Understanding the Power of Public Service,” Farooq stressed that meaningful reform depends on ethical leadership, evidence-based policymaking, institutional collaboration and active community engagement.
She encouraged the Fellows to view public service as an opportunity to strengthen public institutions, promote educational equity and help safeguard the rights and well-being of children, particularly those studying in underserved communities.
Preparing educators for underserved schools
Teach For Pakistan’s Training Institute serves as a pre-service leadership and professional development programme for its 2026 Fellowship cohort. The initiative prepares Fellows before they begin placements in government schools, equipping them with the skills needed to address educational inequality and inspire positive change in classrooms.
More than 85 Fellows attended the session, engaging with discussions on leadership, governance and the importance of creating inclusive education systems that prioritise every child’s development.

The event reinforced the shared commitment of the National Commission on the Rights of Child and Teach For Pakistan to advancing quality education, protecting children’s rights and nurturing future leaders capable of driving long-term social impact through public service and education.
