In his message marking the anniversary of the incident, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari described the sacrifices of the victims as a painful yet unforgettable symbol of the struggle for democracy, justice, and the rule of law in Pakistan.
He stated that political workers, party supporters, and the people of Karachi demonstrated extraordinary courage and resilience on May 12 despite an atmosphere of fear and unrest. According to him, citizens stood firmly against oppression and intimidation, creating a lasting example of resistance in defense of democratic values.
The PPP chairman said the bloodshed witnessed on Karachi’s streets was not merely a tragic event but a testimony to the people’s unwavering commitment to constitutional rights, justice, and democratic governance. He added that nations heal not by forgetting their wounds, but by remembering them with truth, dignity, and accountability.
Bilawal Bhutto further reaffirmed his party’s commitment to building a peaceful, democratic, and tolerant Pakistan where no citizen’s voice can be silenced through violence and no city is held hostage by fear.
The May 12, 2007 violence remains one of the most controversial political incidents in Pakistan’s history, remembered annually by political parties and civil society groups demanding justice for the victims.
