Pakistan: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has announced that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will be the next Chief Justice of Pakistan, replacing Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa. He stated, “On October 26, Justice Mansoor will take over as chief justice.”
During an interview, Bhutto also talked about the need for a Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) due to the heavy workload of the Supreme Court, which affects its ability to function well. He mentioned the long wait for justice in the murder case of former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, saying, “We waited almost 50 years for justice.”
He expressed hope that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would play a positive role in discussions about the twenty-sixth constitutional amendments but acknowledged that working with PTI could be challenging.
On a private tv show, Bhutto noted that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) is drafting its amendments. He added that the PPP will also prepare its own draft for the constitutional court and share it with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
