HYDERABAD : A dangerous alliance between land mafias, entrenched drug networks, and Takfiri extremists has emerged as a serious threat to peace and religious harmony in Aghamkot. According to reports, petitioner Ghulam Rasool Qureshi has brought Takfiri elements from Hyderabad, Badin, and other cities, who have been openly defying judicial, governmental, and administrative directives. Their actions—including the desecration of sacred relics and insults to revered religious figures—point to covert support from powerful backers operating behind the scenes.
The unrest centers on the construction of Roza Masooma-e-Sindh Bibi Maham (SA), a project legally undertaken by the Department of Auqaf in accordance with Sindh High Court directives on government-owned land. Ironically, those now opposing the construction had themselves filed the original petitions in court. Their current protest appears aimed at pursuing personal agendas and stirring sectarian conflict ahead of Ayyam-e-Aza.

These concerns were voiced in a joint press statement by Allama Ayaz Ali Qummi, a prominent religious scholar of Sindh, and Maulana Zahid Hussain Jafri, a leading Shia orator. After visiting the shrine of Bibi Pak Mahem (AS) and conducting a detailed tour of Aghamkot, the scholars expressed alarm at the unfolding situation.
They warned of an organized plot to incite sectarian violence across Sindh and the wider country, manipulated through Takfiri networks to serve narrow interests. They stressed the need to expose the hidden hands enabling these destabilizing activities.
The scholars harshly condemned a recent protest by Takfiri elements at the shrine of Bibi Pak, during which inflammatory slogans were chanted, public threats issued, and sacred relics desecrated. They reminded authorities that this group had also attacked the shrine on Eid-ul-Fitr, causing damage despite the registration of an FIR at Gulab Laghari Police Station. Nevertheless, the disruptive acts continue.
Calling on the Sindh Government, the scholars demanded swift and decisive legal action against those spreading sectarian discord for personal gain, emphasizing the urgent need to protect the sanctity of holy sites and uphold peace in the region.
