Pakistani origin child marriage survivor Naila Amin is a child marriage survivor who is having a purpose in her life; to establish child marriage laws in United States.
The state of New York passed a tribute to 31 years old Naila’s Law whose campaign made it possible for the child marriage law to be passed. Andrew Cuomo recently signed a bill into law rising the age of marriage consent to 18 in New York, called “Naila’s Law”. She is running a foundation namely “Naila Amin Foundation”.
She was engaged with her cousin at the age of 8 and her partner was 13 years senior than her. She was married at the age of 15. She says, “In a picture, I’m just sitting there as I was a little girl and smiling; I don’t know what was happening”. She further says, “I was at their home after getting engaged and they were talking like this is going to become her house, some of them asking me that do you know you got engaged last night! I didn’t get it; I was feeling cool because I was getting gifts and stuff”.
She came out with her own willpower and today she advocates to end child marriage in the US and globally.
