KARACHI, October 2026: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) has nominated industrialist and business leader S.M. Tanveer for the presidency of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for the 2027–28 term.
KATI President Sheikh Umer Rehan and the association’s Executive Committee announced the nomination and called on chambers, trade associations and United Business Group (UBG) leaders across Pakistan to support Tanveer.
KATI leadership said Tanveer could strengthen the representation of industrialists, traders and exporters and help bring their concerns into national economic policymaking.
KATI Highlights Tanveer’s Business Leadership
The meeting was attended by KATI Patron-in-Chief S.M. Tanveer, Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya, Senior Vice President Syed Farrukh Qandhari, Vice President Nasir Sheikh and several senior business leaders.
UBG leaders Zubair Tufail and Khalid Tawab, MNA Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Mian Zahid Hussain, Abdul Momin Khan, Shaukat Ahmed, Ikram Rajput, Masood Naqi, Salim-ul-Zaman, Farhan-ur-Rehman, Sheikh Manzar Alam, Johar Qandahari, Junaid Naqi, Ehteshamuddin, Hanif Gohar and Noor Khan also attended.
Former KATI presidents, Executive Committee members and representatives of the business community were present as well.
Rehan said Tanveer demonstrated leadership during a period of severe economic instability when Pakistan faced significant financial pressures.
He recalled Tanveer’s tenure as caretaker provincial minister and said he adopted a prudent approach during that difficult period.
According to Rehan, Tanveer remained engaged with the business community and highlighted issues affecting industry and trade.

Industry Faces Multiple Economic Challenges
Rehan said Pakistan’s industrial sector continues to face high energy costs, rising production expenses, tax pressures, export difficulties and policy uncertainty.
He said FPCCI needs leadership that can present these concerns effectively before the government and strengthen the business community’s role in economic policymaking.
Rehan also highlighted Tanveer’s advocacy for higher-value exports.
He said Tanveer has repeatedly urged policymakers to address the structural reasons behind declining exports and rising imports. He added that Pakistan could increase foreign exchange earnings by exporting value-added products instead of relying heavily on raw materials.
“FPCCI requires leadership capable of effectively presenting the case of industry and trade before the government and strengthening the voice of the business community in policymaking,” Rehan said.
Zubair Chhaya Backs Tanveer’s Candidacy
KATI Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya said businesses are dealing with high interest rates, expensive energy and stringent tax policies.
He said FPCCI, as the country’s leading representative platform for the business community, needs leadership that can effectively communicate these challenges at the policymaking level.
Chhaya expressed KATI’s full support for Tanveer’s candidacy.
“We hope that after assuming the highest office of FPCCI, S.M. Tanveer will not only play a leading role in resolving the problems confronting Pakistan’s business community but will also help enhance the country’s industrial and commercial standing at the international level,” he said.
Participants also acknowledged Tanveer’s work on issues involving energy, taxation, exports, investment, industrial production and business policies.
KATI leadership and Executive Committee members urged chambers of commerce, trade associations and UBG leaders across Pakistan to support Tanveer’s candidacy.
They described his proposed election as an important objective for the wider business community.
