12 Terrorists Killed in Kalat IBO as Balochistan Faces Fresh Wave of Attacks

Security forces killed 12 terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Kalat district, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The operation took place on Wednesday after reports of terrorists linked to what the military describes as the Indian proxy Fitna al-Hindustan. ISPR said security forces identified and monitored the militants’ hideout before launching a targeted operation.

According to the military’s media wing, all 12 terrorists were killed during the action. Security personnel also destroyed ammunition and improvised explosive devices found at the site.

Sanitisation Operation Continues in Kalat

Security forces have launched sanitisation operations in the area, ISPR said. The ongoing effort aims to locate and eliminate any other terrorists found in the region.

The military also said its counter-terrorism campaign under Azm-i-Istehkam would continue at full pace.

The campaign seeks to eliminate what authorities describe as foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism across the country.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately praised the security forces following the Kalat operation.

Both leaders reaffirmed their resolve to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan. They also said the nation stood firmly with the armed forces and law enforcement agencies.

President Zardari said continued operations target terrorism that authorities believe receives support from external elements.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said the government would not allow terrorists to disrupt peace in Balochistan.

Five Injured as Attack Foiled in Bhag

Separately, law enforcement agencies foiled a coordinated terrorist attack in Bhag city, according to the Balochistan government.

Five people were injured in the incident, including two police personnel.

Shahid Rind, an aide to the Balochistan chief minister for political and media affairs, said around 40 terrorists attacked a police station, a bank and the assistant commissioner’s office.

The attackers reportedly used heavy weapons, rocket launchers, machine guns, sniper rifles and hand grenades.

Police resisted the assault for nearly two hours. Rind said the attackers failed to take control of the police station or seize weapons.

The police station’s protective wall also helped security personnel defend the facility during the attack.

Attackers Fail to Loot Bank

The attackers also failed to take cash from the bank, according to Rind.

A Bomb Disposal Unit team later defused an improvised explosive device planted inside the facility.

Two police personnel suffered injuries from gunfire. Three civilians were also injured, while authorities arranged medical treatment for all five victims.

Residents of Bhag expressed solidarity with the police after the attack. Rind said the incident demonstrated continued public support for security forces in the fight against terrorism.

Balochistan Sees Rising Terrorist Activity

The latest incidents come amid an increase in terrorist activity across Balochistan.

On the night of August 31 and September 1, security forces responded to a coordinated attack on the Customs House near Ziarat Cross on the N-50 National Highway in Pishin district.

ISPR said 10 terrorists were killed during the exchange. Six security personnel also lost their lives, including two officers.

On August 31, security forces also killed 11 terrorists in Chagai’s Nokcha area. The militants had reportedly established an illegal checkpoint on the N-40 Quetta-Taftan Highway.

The checkpoint was allegedly used for extortion. The incident followed an attack on a convoy linked to the Reko Diq copper and gold project.

Security forces also killed two terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in Washuk district on the same day.

Security Concerns Remain High

The recent incidents highlight the continuing security challenge in Balochistan.

According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, the province recorded 89 terrorist attacks in August. The figure represented a seven per cent increase from 83 attacks in July.

The latest operations in Kalat and Bhag come as security forces and law enforcement agencies continue counter-terrorism operations across the province.

Authorities have pledged to maintain pressure on militant networks while strengthening security measures to protect civilians and critical infrastructure.
