Russian Missile Attack on Kyiv Kills Two, Injures Six
Emergency crews respond after a Russian missile and drone attack damaged several areas of Kyiv.
Russian forces attacked Ukraine’s capital with ballistic missiles and drones early Thursday, killing two people and injuring six, according to Kyiv officials.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said debris fell across several districts after the overnight strikes. One of the victims died in a parking area near a maternity hospital.
Three of the six injured people were medical workers. Two of those injured were in serious condition, Klitschko said.
The attack also damaged part of the maternity hospital’s facade and a nearby clinic. Debris struck three districts of the capital, while a residential property was partially destroyed.
Residential Buildings Damaged
In Kyiv’s Dniprovskyi district, debris fell into the yard of a private property. Klitschko said people might have been trapped under the rubble.
Authorities also reported damage to a 16-storey residential building and several private homes. Emergency crews were dispatched to the affected areas.
In the Podilskyi district, debris fell near a medical facility and caused vehicles to catch fire. The nearby maternity hospital suffered damage to its windows and facade. Ukrainian officials said patients and staff inside the facility were not reported injured.
Zelenskiy Calls for Stronger Pressure on Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the latest attack while attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Zelenskiy said continued strikes showed that pressure on Moscow had not reached what he described as a sufficient level.
He also said the attack occurred while he was discussing a newly approved US sanctions measure targeting Russia with members of Congress.
The Ukrainian president called for additional ballistic missile interceptors and stronger sanctions against Russia and entities supporting its economy.
Kyiv Faces Continued Russian Strikes
The latest missile attack followed a separate Russian assault on Kyiv that continued through Wednesday.
Klitschko said those attacks killed two people and injured 45. The strikes caused damage to civilian and infrastructure sites across the capital.
Reuters witnesses reported several explosions after 1 a.m. local time on Thursday. Ukrainian authorities issued warnings as emergency crews responded to multiple locations.
Recent Russian attacks have increasingly involved drones and ballistic missiles. Reuters has reported that Ukraine faces shortages of interceptors needed to counter ballistic threats.
Odesa Also Reports Damage
The overnight attacks also affected the southern port city of Odesa.
Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa military administration, said Russian strikes damaged residential buildings as well as medical and educational facilities.
He did not immediately provide further details.
The latest attacks came as Ukrainian and international officials continued diplomatic discussions over the war at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
