AI abuse against Muslim women in India has intensified through the use of manipulated images and videos, according to a report published by Al Jazeera. The report says artificial intelligence is increasingly being used to create deceptive and offensive content that targets Muslim women online.

According to Al Jazeera, Muslim women in India have faced online harassment and hate campaigns for several years. The report states that individuals use AI tools to produce fake images, altered videos and misleading content that misrepresents victims.

The report says perpetrators digitally alter photographs and videos of Muslim women without their consent. They then place the manipulated content in explicit or offensive contexts and circulate it across online platforms.

Al Jazeera reported that between May 2023 and May 2025, creators produced around 1,300 AI-generated videos depicting Muslim women in degrading or fabricated scenarios.

Eviane Leidig, Director of the Centre for the Study of Organized Hate, said such AI-generated content gains wider acceptance within online communities influenced by Hindutva ideology. She warned that these campaigns reinforce anti-Muslim narratives and increase the risk of digital abuse.

The report also quoted Sameer, a representative of an Indian human rights organisation. He said perpetrators alter videos of Muslim women with AI technology without their consent to falsely portray them in immoral or explicit situations.

Digital rights experts have raised growing concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence to spread disinformation, harassment and gender-based abuse. They have urged governments, technology companies and online platforms to strengthen safeguards against AI-generated harmful content while protecting victims’ rights.
