The talks are taking place at the Bürgenstock resort and involve delegations from the United States, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar. Swiss authorities said the discussions aim to support implementation efforts while maintaining confidentiality around the process.
Focus of the Negotiations
According to official statements, the discussions will address technical details connected to the memorandum and future diplomatic arrangements. The framework also opens a negotiation period intended to address broader issues in later stages.
State broadcaster PTV reported that the talks could continue beyond one day if required. However, Iranian officials indicated that the current schedule initially planned a one-day round of engagements.
Moreover, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said Islamabad would hold bilateral interactions with participating delegations to support dialogue and regional stability.
Delegations Arrive in Switzerland
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif travelled with senior Pakistani officials and military leadership for the discussions, according to official statements.
Meanwhile, the United States delegation includes Vice President JD Vance alongside negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. Iran’s delegation includes senior political and diplomatic officials led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Before the formal discussions, Pakistani and American representatives also held meetings at the venue, according to state media reports.
Pakistan’s Mediation Role
Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the country would continue supporting implementation efforts under the memorandum and maintain engagement with all participating parties.
Furthermore, officials described Pakistan’s role as part of wider diplomatic efforts aimed at encouraging dialogue and reducing regional tensions. Switzerland has also supported the process by providing a neutral venue for negotiations.
Next Steps Under the Memorandum
Officials said the memorandum establishes a framework for continued engagement rather than a final settlement.
Therefore, negotiators are expected to focus on implementation measures and discussions that could shape future agreements in the coming weeks. Reports indicate that negotiations may continue over an extended timeline if required.
