Karachi Braces for Moderate Rainfall as Third Monsoon Spell Hits Sindh

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted moderate rainfall in Karachi starting today (Friday), as part of the third monsoon spell expected across Sindh province.

According to PMD Deputy Director Anjum Nazir Zaigham, Karachi will experience moderate showers, with a stronger weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal. This upcoming system may bring heavier rains to Karachi and surrounding areas in the coming days.

The ongoing monsoon activity is expected to bring rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms to several cities across Sindh, including Ghotki, Sukkur, Sanghar, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Badin, Sujawal, Thatta, Mirpur Khas, Matiari, Larkana, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Shikarpur, and Jacobabad.

Rain is forecast to begin in Dadu today and gradually expand to other districts by evening and night.

This weather alert comes as monsoon rains continue to lash other regions of Pakistan, including South Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

In Punjab, the torrential rains have already caused significant damage. In the past 24 hours alone, at least 55 people lost their lives in rain-related accidents. Chakwal recorded 450 mm of rainfall, while Islamabad and Rawalpindi received 240 mm, leading to flooding, overflowing rivers, and water entering residential areas.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also issued warnings about potential flash floods in vulnerable areas. Citizens have been urged to take precautionary measures, stay indoors, and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
