LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the financial structure for the province’s e-taxi initiative, paving the way for the launch of a pilot project featuring 1,100 electric taxis, according to sources.
During a high-level meeting chaired by the CM, officials decided to incorporate solar-powered charging stations as part of the project’s infrastructure. The e-taxi program is designed to improve transportation services across Punjab with an eco-friendly solution.
CM Maryam received detailed briefings on various mass transit developments, including the feasibility study for the Yellow Line project. She emphasized the need for public convenience in planning routes and directed authorities to begin immediate work on the Yellow Line from Jinnah Terminal to Harbanspura.
She also instructed that detailed route studies for the Gujranwala mass transit system be conducted.
The meeting reviewed different components of the e-taxi plan, including potential government subsidies and the possibility of installing charging stations at existing petrol pump locations.
