KARACHI – Sindh’s Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, has announced the launch of the Sindh Talent Hunt Programme as part of a broader effort to promote cultural talent, protect historical heritage, and enhance tourism in the province, ARY News reported.
Chaired by Minister Shah, a high-level meeting led to the approval of several cultural initiatives, with the Talent Hunt Programme aimed at discovering and nurturing artistic talent throughout Sindh.
The meeting also addressed the urgent need to safeguard historical landmarks, particularly after public backlash over the demolition of the Kanji and Cowasjee buildings. In response, the department pledged to strengthen monitoring systems for heritage site protection.
In tourism development, the department plans to reduce resort prices at key destinations and provide free internet access to improve visitor experiences. New attractions such as desert jeep safaris and camping in Tharparkar are also in the pipeline.
To preserve historical records, officials agreed to digitally link the Sindh Archives with the British Library. Meanwhile, cultural digitization projects continue, including converting Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s poetry into mobile apps and translating the history of Mohenjo Daro into over 15 languages.
A detailed report on the demolished heritage buildings will be submitted to the Sindh Chief Minister, with further steps expected to protect and promote Sindh’s cultural legacy.
