PMD denies rumors of unprecedented cold wave and snowfall

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has debunked recent rumors circulating on social media about an extreme cold wave and snowfall across the country.

In a statement, the PMD clarified that reports claiming “the coldest days and nights in 100 years” between January 12 and 15, along with snowfall in central Punjab similar to Saudi Arabia, were entirely false and lacked any scientific foundation.

The PMD stressed that snowfall in central Punjab is not possible due to the region’s geographical and climatic conditions, dismissing the speculation as baseless. The department further stated that while most parts of the country are expected to experience cold and dry weather, there is no evidence to suggest a historic or exceptionally severe cold spell.

The weather forecast for January 11 includes light rain or drizzle, accompanied by strong winds, in several areas, including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, and Pakpattan.

The PMD urged the public to rely only on accurate weather information provided through its official channels and to avoid believing unverified claims circulating through unofficial sources, which can cause unnecessary panic. The department reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety by providing reliable forecasts and updates.
