KARACHI: Residents of Sindh Royal Cooperative Housing Society have appealed to the President, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Chief Minister of Sindh, Governor, Chief of Army Staff, and the Corps Commander of Karachi, requesting protection against a land mafia attempting to seize their land.
The residents stated that the land was originally allotted by the late Sindh
Chief Minister Syed Abdullah Shah for the housing of low-income employees of
PIA, both retired and serving.
All legal requirements were fulfilled, and payments were made in accordance
with a decision by the Sindh High Court. However, they claim that due to collusion between government officials and the land mafia, their land is being targeted
for unlawful occupation.
Despite the appointment of administrator’s multiple times to manage the society, the residents highlight a key issue in 2023, when elections for the managing committee were held under the supervision of the Registrar. Yet, in December
2023, the Cooperative Secretary dissolved the committee and appointed an administrator, claiming new elections would be held within two months. The
process, however, has not been carried out as promised, and a third administrator has now been appointed.
The residents, distressed by these developments, suspect the land mafia is
behind the ongoing administrative changes. They are calling for intervention to
safeguard their property and provide relief from the ongoing challenges. They
have also approached the Sindh High Court for legal assistance, seeking to ensure that the society’s legally allotted land remains protected from encroachment.
