Karachi Receives Widespread Rainfall as Authorities Issue High Alert

Widespread rainfall lashed Karachi on Thursday morning, with intermittent showers affecting multiple areas across the city and prompting authorities to place emergency services on high alert.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Bahria Town recorded the highest rainfall between 9am and 11am at 20.5mm, followed by Surjani Town with 12.6mm and University Road with 8.2mm.

Other areas, including Gulshan-e-Maymar, Jinnah Terminal, Kemari, DHA, Malir, and Shahrah-e-Faisal, also received rainfall ranging from 0.4mm to 7.2mm. Thunderstorm activity was reported near the airport and Malir, while several localities such as Saddar, Korangi, Clifton, Landhi, PECHS, Nazimabad, and Garden experienced intermittent showers.

The PMD has forecast further rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms later in the day. The minimum temperature was recorded at 23.5°C, with the maximum expected to reach 27°C, while humidity levels stood at 83%.

In response, the Sindh government has placed all relevant departments on high alert. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed that precautionary measures have been implemented, including cancellation of staff leaves, deployment of personnel at key choke points, and installation of additional dewatering pumps to tackle potential waterlogging in low-lying areas.
