Pakistan: Cricketer Imad Wasim has announced his return to international cricket, retracting his retirement decision made in November last year. The all-rounder stated his availability for Pakistan’s T20 squad leading up to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

In a social media post, Wasim expressed his happiness in reconsidering his retirement, thanking the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their trust in him. He affirmed his commitment to giving his best for Pakistan, stating, “Pakistan comes first!”

Having debuted in May 2015 against Zimbabwe, Imad Wasim has represented Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is, taking 109 wickets and scoring 1,472 runs in his international career. His recent performances for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League, including a five-wicket haul in the final, have highlighted his form and capability.

Speculation about Wasim’s return had been circulating, with Islamabad captain and Pakistan’s star all-rounder Shadab Khan openly expressing his desire for Wasim to make a comeback ahead of the World Cup. Wasim, 35, had hinted at a potential return, stating that he felt he had several years of cricket left in him.

The T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled from June 1-29, will feature 20 teams and will be jointly hosted by the United States and the West Indies. Pakistan’s preparations for the tournament include a series against New Zealand, comprising five T20Is in Rawalpindi and Lahore, starting from April 18.
