KARACHI – The Seventh Annual International Karachi Conference will be held at the JS Auditorium, Institute of Business Administration (IBA), Karachi City Campus from November 1-3, 2019.
The first day of the conference will be dedicated to student films. The second day of the conference will begin with a keynote address by a prominent Pakistani dramatist, and scriptwriter, Haseena Moin. The first session of the conference will be on the future of Karachi’s Heritage keeping in mind all the ongoing transformations being made to the cityscape. The second session of the conference will be discussing the future of Karachi’s development, bringing forth important analyses on various subjects such as the aftermath of the comparatively small scale rains this summer.
The third day of the conference will begin with a session by the students from the Karachi Urban Lab at the IBA Karachi and Habib University on the ongoing displacement and resettlement of the city’s population and issues being faced by migrant communities, as these have been constant urban issues for several decades in Pakistan. It will be followed by a session on Karachi’s book cultures featuring representatives from several important bookstores and libraries in the city, who will be discussing the role of their respective institutions in the city’s past and present.
On the third day, the conference will conclude with a special screening of Nehr Ghar’s film ‘Laal Kabootar’ – an action-crime-thriller film shot in various parts of Karachi.
The Karachi Conference Foundation members take pleasure in extending an invitation for participation, the entry to the conference is free, and the participants are expected to register themselves at the venue on the day of the conference.
