Actor Demands Humane Treatment of Animals
KARACHI: Pakistani actor Zhalay Sarhadi has criticized the reported killing of stray dogs in Lahore and urged authorities to adopt humane animal control methods.
India Bans Sugar Exports to Control Prices
In a video shared on social media, Sarhadi questioned why officials ignored court orders against dog culling. She also asked why innocent animals were being targeted.
TNVR Method Recommended
The actor admitted that stray dog attacks remained a serious issue. However, she said authorities failed to implement proper solutions.
Sarhadi supported the trap, neuter, vaccinate, release (TNVR) method. She described it as the safest and most humane way to control stray animal populations.
She opposed reports claiming that dogs were being poisoned or shot instead of vaccinated.
Human Behaviour Towards Animals Criticized
Sarhadi also criticized the way humans treat animals.
She said donkeys are forced into hard labor, horses are overworked, and elephants are used for entertainment. She also raised concerns about zoo animals living away from their natural habitats.
According to the actor, humans often abuse animals simply because they have power over them.
Aggression Linked to Abuse
The actor argued that human cruelty often causes aggressive behavior in stray animals.
She said many stray dogs spend their lives facing abuse and violence. As a result, animals become defensive and fearful.
Sarhadi added that she had visited areas in Pakistan where animals were treated kindly. In those communities, humans and animals lived peacefully together.
Comparison Made With Human Crimes
Sarhadi also compared society’s reaction to dog attacks with crimes committed by humans.
She said children are sometimes harmed by relatives, teachers, or other trusted individuals. However, society does not punish all people from those groups.
According to her, stray dogs are killed because they cannot defend themselves.
Support for Animal Welfare Activists
The actor praised animal welfare volunteers, shelters, and activists working to protect stray animals.
She encouraged them to continue raising awareness and defending animals that cannot speak for themselves.
Conflicting Claims Continue in Lahore
Reports from Lahore claimed that a large-scale dog culling campaign was underway. The campaign was allegedly being carried out by the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore.
However, Chief Metropolitan Officer Shahid Kathia denied the allegations.
He stated that teams were only capturing dogs, vaccinating them, and relocating them outside the city.
The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences later challenged those claims. The university reportedly said that no animals had been brought there for vaccination.
Meanwhile, videos showing dead dogs on city streets continued to spread across social media platforms.
