KARACHI – TEXtalks International in association with Cotton Council International USA, SPGPrints and FPPCI organized an Awareness Program on “World Cotton Day, with the aim to promote WTO’s World Cotton Day Global Campaign.
The event was held at Federation House, Karachi. The theme of the event was – The Economic and Social Impact of Cotton.
Mr. William Bettendorf, Director of Cotton Council International, the U.S.A. highlighting the significance of sustainability said,
“Sustainable cotton will not only reduce the environmental impact of cotton production but also improve the livelihoods and economic development in cotton-producing areas and ensure the future of cotton.”
Mr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Senior Vice President, F.P.C.C.I talking about research and development raised awareness on improved seed varieties. said,
“Improved seed varieties is considered as one of the most important agriculture input for achieving better cotton production and giving economic benefit to growers. It gives an impetus to increase production and improve cotton quality.”
Mr. Yousaf Fraeed, CEO of TEXtalks International following a vote of thanks talked about the importance of cotton as a global commodity. He said, “
Cotton plays a vital role in the economy of the country, as this crop, besides providing raw material for textile, oil and allied industries, earns a major share of foreign exchange.”
The event was a major success with more than 250 top decision-makers from the industry. Some of the other key speakers and participants at the event include Engr. The seminar was concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony celebrating World Cotton Day.
