WeRide Launches Global Insurance Partnership to Expand Autonomous Vehicles

WeRide Insurance programme supports its Robotaxi GXR fleet in Abu Dhabi through locally compliant coverage.
Autonomous driving technology company WeRide has launched a global insurance partnership programme to support the expansion of its driverless vehicle services across international markets.
The company named Allianz Insurance Singapore and Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance Company of China as the programme’s inaugural partners. The initiative aims to develop insurance solutions suited to autonomous vehicle operations across different regulatory environments.
WeRide plans to use the programme to support the deployment of tens of thousands of autonomous vehicles worldwide. Its current operations span China, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, while the company is preparing for further expansion into Europe.
Tailored Insurance for Driverless Operations
WeRide and its insurance partners will develop coverage for Level 4 (L4) autonomous driving operations. These solutions will address motor liability, commercial general liability, product liability, privacy and cybersecurity risks, subject to local requirements.
The programme will also seek to streamline insurance procedures as the company expands its fleet. WeRide expects long-term partnerships, centralised insurance arrangements and larger deployment volumes to improve efficiency and support the commercial viability of autonomous mobility.

Insurance is a key component of autonomous vehicle operations because it helps manage potential losses and clarify responsibilities when incidents occur. WeRide said its approach combines insurance expertise with its technology and operational experience.
Allianz Supports Autonomous Mobility in Singapore
Allianz Insurance Singapore is an inaugural partner with experience insuring WeRide’s driverless services.
The company became the first insurer in Singapore to provide coverage for a fully driverless autonomous vehicle through WeRide’s Robobus service on Sentosa. Allianz later extended coverage to WeRide Robotaxis operating with Grab under the Ai.R autonomous shuttle service in Punggol.
As of October 2026, the Ai.R service had served more than 13,000 unique riders and recorded over 135,000 kilometres of autonomous driving, according to WeRide.
Allianz said the partnership reflects its focus on managing the risks associated with autonomous mobility and supporting the responsible development of smart transportation services.
Ping An Supports Operations in China and the Middle East
WeRide and Ping An P&C Insurance have developed insurance solutions that comply with local requirements for Robotaxi operations in China and the Middle East.
The coverage supports deployments in four major driverless markets: Beijing, Guangzhou, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. WeRide also operates services through its WeRide Go platform and third-party mobility partners, including Uber and TXAI.
Ping An said the collaboration would help address the insurance requirements of Chinese autonomous driving companies expanding into international markets. It highlighted insurance’s role in identifying risks, compensating losses and reducing potential harm.
WeRide Operates Across 13 Countries
WeRide reported a global fleet of approximately 3,600 autonomous vehicles, including more than 1,800 Robotaxis. The vehicles operate across 13 countries and more than 60 cities.
The company develops autonomous driving products and services ranging from Level 2 driver assistance to Level 4 automation. Its portfolio serves mobility, logistics and sanitation applications.
WeRide said it plans to extend the insurance programme to additional markets and partners. It will also explore insurance pricing, coverage structures and operating procedures tailored to autonomous vehicles.
Industry Partnerships Support Global Expansion
WeRide CFO and Head of International Jennifer Li said insurance provides essential infrastructure for scaling autonomous driving worldwide. She said the new programme would strengthen the company’s expansion plans by bringing leading insurers into its global partnership network.
Allianz Insurance Singapore CEO Ong Bi Ying said the partnership would help develop coverage suited to the specific risks of driverless operations. Ping An P&C Insurance Deputy Party Committee Secretary Hequn Shi described the initiative as a way to support the international expansion of China’s autonomous driving industry.
As autonomous vehicles enter more markets, insurers and technology companies will need to adapt coverage to new operational risks, local regulations and evolving responsibilities. WeRide’s programme aims to establish a broader insurance framework as its driverless services expand.
