The Recharge Pakistan project has officially launched, marking a significant step forward for environmental and community resilience in Pakistan. With a total investment of $77.8 million, this groundbreaking initiative brings together USAID, which is contributing $5 million, along with the Coca-Cola Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and a major $66 million grant from the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

Running from July 2023 through June 2028, with a potential extension to 2030, the project targets key regions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan. It aims to reduce the risks of floods and droughts, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and bolster climate-resilient businesses. The initiative is set to directly benefit about 687,000 people and indirectly impact more than seven million.

Recharge Pakistan will work to restore 14,215 hectares of forests and wetlands, rehabilitate 34 kilometers of floodwater channels, and build 127 groundwater recharge basins. Additionally, it will strengthen the climate resilience of seven local businesses and reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 53,000 tons. By integrating natural solutions with innovative infrastructure, Recharge Pakistan promises to enhance environmental stability and support sustainable development across the country.
