US-Iran Talks Face New Hurdle as Mediators Seek Nuclear Concessions
US-Iran talks face fresh challenges as mediators push for a diplomatic breakthrough.
Mediators are urging Iran to make concessions on its nuclear programme. They want to revive ceasefire talks with the United States, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The effort follows US President Donald Trump’s rejection of an Iranian ceasefire proposal. Tehran had proposed a seven-day ceasefire. It also called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran remains open to diplomacy. However, he warned that Iran is ready to respond to renewed military action.
“We are fully prepared for the war to resume,” Araghchi He also said Iran remains ready for diplomatic talks.
Qatar continues to relay messages between Washington and Tehran. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said the conflict has become difficult to resolve.
Iran Seeks Sanctions Relief
Iran wants Washington to return to a June understanding. The framework included reopening the Strait of Hormuz. It also proposed future talks on Iran’s nuclear programme.
Tehran is seeking sanctions relief as part of any agreement. It also wants the release of frozen Iranian funds.
US officials said Trump no longer supports the previous agreement. Washington has instead maintained sanctions against Tehran.
Eight US Marines Injured
Eight US Marines suffered injuries in an Iranian missile attack. The incident took place in the Strait of Hormuz on September 14.
Three US officials said the Marines did not suffer serious injuries. They reported smoke inhalation and possible traumatic brain injuries.
All eight Marines later returned to duty, according to the officials.

The Pentagon’s casualty system had recorded 861 injured US service members as of Wednesday.
Iran Calls for Diplomacy
Araghchi said Iran remains committed to diplomacy. He also warned against further military action.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran remains ready to discuss its nuclear programme. He said Iran would not accept pressure or coercion.
Trump told Axios that US negotiators could hold more talks during the week. The statement leaves room for renewed diplomatic engagement.
Saudi Arabia Faces Regional Pressure
The conflict has also increased pressure on Saudi Arabia. Iran and its allies have expanded attacks across the region.
Houthi forces in Yemen have targeted Saudi interests. The fighting has also disrupted oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
The waterway remains a key route for global energy supplies.
