Karachi (Staff Reporter) A conference was organized by Karachi Psychiatric Hospital on the occasion of World Mental Illness Day at Karachi Press Club in which psychiatrist and MD Karachi Psychiatric Hospital Dr. Syed Abdul Rehman, COO Syed Khursheed Jawad, Chairperson Kausar Parveen, senior psychiatrist Dr. Akhtar Farid Siddiqui, senior psychologist Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, senior psychologist Roohi Afroz and other psychiatrists, professors and doctors also participated. World Mental Illness Day is celebrated on October 10 across the world including Pakistan, with the aim of raising awareness among the public about mental illnesses and raising awareness for their treatment. Addressing the press conference, psychiatrist and MD Karachi Psychiatric Hospital Dr. Syed Abdul Rehman said that mental health is a basic human need, ignoring which can have serious consequences at the social and individual levels He said that mental illnesses are increasing rapidly in Pakistan, due to which the trend of divorce, suicide and drug use among the youth is increasing rapidly in the society, one of the main reasons of which is distance from religion and it is necessary that we talk openly on this subject so that awareness is increased among the public and timely treatment and guidance can be provided to the affected people. Dr. Syed Abdul Rehman further said that quarrels between children and parents, husband and wife and in-laws in the homes are also the result of mental stress, anxiety and depression.
All these diseases are treatable. All that is needed is that the patients and families should approach psychologists instead of being ashamed or afraid so that a healthy and balanced society can be formed, for which the government of the day and the eminent scholars should play their role because our religion teaches patience, tolerance and tolerance.
