Spotify Reveals Popular Trends amongst Gen Z and Millennials of Pakistan.

Karachi, September 4, 2023 – As the youth continues to drive musical trends in Pakistan, Spotify has revealed exciting data highlighting the artists, tracks, and genres that are the most popular amongst this lot of music enthusiasts. With a mix of hip-hop, rap, and electro beats from Pakistan and beyond taking the spotlight, the recent data showcases the vibrant tastes of the younger generation in this country.

The youth and their preferred genre of music is an interesting highlight with “Filmi” tracks and “Modern Bollywood” emerging as the most commonly streamed music, followed by Desi Pop, Pop and Punjabi Pop as the high-bass beats reverberate across the nation. The youth of Pakistan prefer to stream their music mostly at night with the majority tuning in to Spotify between 10 PM and 12 AM.

For listeners between the ages of 16 and 20, “Lagda Nahi” by Ammy Gill and Toshi ranked as the most streamed track. Next in line are “Bikhra” and “Iraaday” by the powerful duo of Abdul Hannan and Rovalio, “Nahin Milta” by Bayaan, “Downers at Dusk” by Talha Anjum and Umair, along with “Introduction” by Faris Shafi. For audiences aged 21-27, “Iraaday” and “Bikhra” are the chart toppers with “Lagda Nahi” ranking third.

Talha Anjum sits at the top as the most streamed artist for the youth in Pakistan. He is followed by the pop legend, Atif Aslam, and Spotify’s Fresh Finds discovery, Abdul Hannan, who has turned into a global sensation.

Spotify’s launch in Pakistan has given the younger generation a distinct platform to make their voices heard by powering unprecedented musical trends. According to the latest data set released by the music streaming service, the top local playlists include “Hot Hits Pakistan”, “Shaadi Hits”, “Desi Hits”, “Desi Lofi” and “Punjabi Sauce” for Gen Z. As for the millennials, the top two remain the same whereas “Pakka Hit Hai” and “Desi Hits” rank third and fourth. “Desi Lofi” completes the top 5 playlists for this segment of listeners. 

In terms of global singers, the king of heartbreak anthems, Arijit Singh, is the artist that both age groups (16-20 and 21-27) adore the most. Pritam, Taylor Swift, Shubh and AP Dhillon are the other four artists that complete the top five list.
