The Sindh government has decided to establish special police stations to take strict action against profiteers across the province. These stations will be staffed by officials from the Bureau of Supply and Prices along with police constables, Business Recorder reported on Wednesday.

A high-level meeting, chaired by Syed Waqar Mehdi, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team, and Usman Ghani Hingoro, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Bureau of Supply and Prices, was held to finalize strategies to combat profiteering and price manipulation.

Key attendees included Suhail Ahmed Qureshi, Secretary of Agriculture Supply and Prices, Dr. Shakir Qayuum Khanzada, Director General of the Bureau of Supply and Prices, the DG of Agriculture Marketing, and officials from the Agriculture Department.

During the meeting, Hingoro emphasized the urgency of stabilizing essential commodity prices and curbing hoarding. He announced that all warehouses and storage facilities would be registered before the holy month of Ramzan 2025 to ensure transparency in the supply chain.

Additional measures decided in the meeting include:

  • Establishing special complaint centers where consumers can report profiteering.
  • Setting up discounted stalls in Bachat Bazaars to provide essential goods at controlled prices.
  • Deploying officers on special duties to monitor markets and enforce notified price lists.

The Sindh government aims to implement these measures ahead of Ramzan to protect consumers from artificial price hikes and ensure fair pricing of essential goods.
