BHIT SHAH — Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi officially inaugurated the three-day 283rd annual Urs celebrations of Shah Bhittai, paying tribute to the revered Sufi saint and highlighting his enduring message of peace, love and unity.
The governor visited the shrine of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, laid a floral wreath, offered Fateha and expressed deep reverence for one of the region’s most influential spiritual and literary figures.
He also prayed for Pakistan’s peace, stability, prosperity, national unity and the well-being of the Muslim Ummah.
Governor Hashmi said the teachings of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai continue to inspire generations with values of tolerance, compassion, brotherhood and mutual respect. He described the saint’s philosophy as a timeless symbol of Sindh’s rich culture, spirituality and Sufi heritage.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the governor said Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s universal message remains relevant in promoting harmony, coexistence and national solidarity.
He stressed the importance of introducing younger generations to the saint’s teachings, poetry and spiritual legacy, describing them as essential for building a peaceful and progressive society.
Governor Hashmi said following the teachings of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai could help strengthen a united, dignified and prosperous Pakistan.
He added that the annual Urs is not only a religious and cultural gathering but also a celebration of Pakistan’s spiritual heritage, national identity and centuries-old Sufi traditions.
Call for Global Recognition of Shah Jo Risalo
Speaking to the media, Governor Hashmi said Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s message transcends religion and social divisions, offering humanity a path of peace, love and compassion.
He described Shah Jo Risalo as a priceless literary and spiritual treasure and called for its translation into more international languages so people around the world could better understand the saint’s philosophy and contributions.
The governor noted that while conflicts shaped many periods of history, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai consistently preached peace, tolerance and brotherhood.
He said Sindh and Pakistan should be recognised globally for promoting harmony and coexistence through their rich Sufi traditions.
Thousands Attend Opening Ceremony
The inaugural Urs ceremony drew a large gathering of public representatives, religious scholars, custodians of shrines, pilgrims, literary figures, cultural personalities, government officials and people from diverse walks of life.
Governor Hashmi welcomed the participation of followers from different faiths, saying their presence reflected Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s enduring message of interfaith harmony and universal brotherhood.
He added that the saint’s teachings continue to serve as a powerful force for eliminating hatred and promoting humanity, making his legacy relevant not only for Pakistan but for the entire world.
