Security forces conducted an intelligence-based operation on April 19, 2026, in Bannu District of Pakistan, targeting the reported presence of militants, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military’s media wing stated that intense exchange of fire took place during the operation, resulting in the killing of two militants, including a key commander identified as Waheedullah alias Muktiar and a suicide bomber. Authorities said both were linked to an alleged militant network described as “Indian-sponsored Fitna-al-Khwarij.”

ISPR reported that weapons, ammunition, and a suicide jacket were recovered from the site, indicating plans for a major attack. The statement added that Waheedullah was among the most wanted individuals due to his involvement in multiple attacks on security forces and civilians.

He was also accused of orchestrating a suicide bombing in Bannu on February 21, 2026, which resulted in the martyrdom of Lieutenant Colonel Gul Faraz. Officials said the latest operation effectively neutralized the main perpetrator and prevented a potential large-scale terrorist incident.

Security forces have launched a follow-up sanitization operation in the area to clear any remaining threats. The military reaffirmed that counterterrorism operations under the national strategy “Azm-e-Istehkam” will continue across the country to eliminate militancy and ensure long-term stability.
