Salt Manufacturers Seek Extension of FBR Tax Return Deadline

Salt Manufacturers Association of Pakistan calls for an extension of the FBR income tax return filing deadline.
The Salt Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (SMAP) has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the income tax return filing deadline, citing persistent technical issues with the IRIS online filing system.
SMAP Chairman Ismail Suttar said repeated portal disruptions have made it difficult for taxpayers to prepare and submit their returns on time. He also pointed to delays in the availability of return forms, which have added to the challenges faced by individuals, traders and businesses.
IRIS Portal Issues Delay Tax Filing
Suttar said technical glitches and administrative delays have created hurdles for taxpayers trying to meet the existing deadline. These problems, he noted, could affect their ability to submit accurate returns within the prescribed period.

He stressed that taxpayers need sufficient time to fulfil their legal obligations, particularly when technical problems disrupt the filing process.
SMAP Calls for Additional Time
The SMAP chairman urged the FBR to grant a reasonable extension. He said additional time would help taxpayers complete their returns accurately and avoid penalties caused by circumstances beyond their control.
SMAP maintained that the tax authority should consider the difficulties taxpayers face when its online system experiences repeated disruptions. A suitable extension, the association said, would provide relief to affected taxpayers and support a smoother filing process.
