Responsible Journalism remains the foundation of democracy and development, Governor Sindh tells Karachi Editors Club

KARACHI: Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi has reaffirmed that responsible journalism plays a central role in strengthening democracy, ensuring transparent governance and accelerating Pakistan’s national development.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Karachi Editors Club, led by its President Mubashir Mir, at the Governor House, Hashmi said that a free, constructive and accountable media remains one of the strongest pillars of a democratic society. He stressed that ethical journalism helps inform the public, promotes transparency and contributes to sustainable national progress.

The meeting covered a wide range of issues, including the challenges facing Pakistan’s media industry, the role of journalism in nation-building, youth empowerment and public welfare. The Governor also highlighted the government’s initiatives designed to prepare young people for the digital economy.
Hashmi pointed to the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme as a key programme that provides students with modern technology and digital learning opportunities, helping them develop the skills needed in today’s competitive world.
During the discussion, Mubashir Mir outlined the Karachi Editors Club’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the media profession through journalist training programmes, seminars, media dialogues and public awareness campaigns. He also requested government support for establishing a permanent headquarters for the Club, describing it as an essential step towards creating a modern centre for research, professional training and media development.
Governor Hashmi praised the Karachi Editors Club for its contribution to promoting ethical journalism and increasing public awareness. He assured the delegation of his continued support for initiatives that strengthen professional standards and enhance the capacity of journalists.
Both sides agreed to expand cooperation between public institutions and the media to encourage professional journalism, improve journalist training and support informed public discourse across Pakistan.
The delegation included Nazir Laghari, Secretary General Manzar Naqvi, Mukhtar Ahmed Butt, Humair Anwar, Naeem Tahir, Nadeem Israr Usmani, Javed Malik, Naeemuddin, Tanzeem Javed, Ali Asghar and Iqbal Jameel.
