Punjab Police intensified its internal accountability campaign on Wednesday as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem imposed disciplinary penalties on 20 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and honoured seven high-performing officers from Sheikhupura for exemplary service.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the accountability drive reflects the department’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, transparency and merit-based policing.
During an Orderly Room chaired by IG Abdul Kareem on July 9, the department imposed major disciplinary penalties on three DSPs. Authorities dismissed one officer from service, demoted another to the rank of Senior Traffic Warden, and handed a separate major penalty to a third officer under departmental rules.
The spokesperson said earlier Orderly Rooms had already resulted in disciplinary action against 17 DSPs. The department dismissed two officers from service, demoted one officer, reduced the salaries of two officers and imposed other disciplinary penalties on 12 DSPs.

Punjab Police reaffirmed that it would continue the accountability process to strengthen discipline, integrity and professional standards across the force.
Separately, at a ceremony held at the Central Police Office in Lahore, IG Abdul Kareem presented commendation letters, certificates and cash rewards to seven officers from Sheikhupura Police for their exceptional performance.
The department recognised the officers for maintaining law and order, controlling crime, improving community policing, strengthening security arrangements and delivering efficient public policing services.
Congratulating the recipients, IG Abdul Kareem said officers who protect public safety, maintain peace and provide quality services remain among Punjab Police’s greatest strengths.
He added that the department would continue recognising officers who contribute to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Safe Punjab Vision, stressing that merit-based rewards play a vital role in improving professionalism and public service.
SP Investigation Sheikhupura Ghulam Abbas received a commendation letter and cash reward, while DSP Ghulam Murtaza Dogar and DSP Tariq Ilyas Kiyani also earned commendation letters and financial awards.
The department also honoured Inspector Muhammad Nizam, Inspector Rizwan Elahi, Sub-Inspector Ghazanfar Aziz and Sub-Inspector Manzoor Ahmad with commendation certificates and cash rewards for their professional commitment and outstanding performance.
Addressing the award recipients, IG Abdul Kareem urged them to continue serving with dedication, professionalism and integrity while ensuring public safety, protecting citizens’ lives and property and maintaining law and order across Punjab.
Senior police officials, including RPO Sheikhupura Athar Ismail Amjad, DPO Sheikhupura Bilal Zafar Sheikh, AIG Administration and Security Farooq Sultan, and other officers attended the ceremony.
