Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited celebrates the 50th anniversary of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which has been celebrated annually since 1969.

The theme for this year is ‘Bridging the Standardization Gap’. PTCL has gone through a massive transformation since its inception and is now focused to provide a digital lifestyle, along with innovative telecom services to customers as well as the businesses in Pakistan.

The company has been serving the nation since 1947 as Pakistan’s backbone for connectivity, in over 2000 cities and towns. Currently, the largest fixed-line network of the country, PTCL offers a powerful array of telecom products and services, including high-speed broadband internet, CharJi wireless internet, Smart TV service, over-the-top (OTT) applications such as the Smart TV App, Touch App, Carrier & Wholesale, Satellite Services, and Data Centres. Thus, serving the connectivity need for millions of consumers and businesses nationwide.

Throughout the years, PTCL has been bringing state-of-the-art technologies and solutions in order to facilitate digital transformation through connectivity to boost economic growth in Pakistan. Keeping this in mind, PTCL has made concerted efforts as well as putting investment in connecting the nation from Gilgit to Gwadar and Khyber to Karachi through its network. Being the carrier of carriers, PTCL is a member of four international submarine cable consortiums that is AAE-1, SMW-3, SMW-4 & IMEWE, and handles the majority of the data traffic coming in and going out of Pakistan. It is a fact that two third of the country’s internet traffic is ultimately routed through PTCL. Not only that, all airports, banks, and emergency services also run on its network. To support the nationwide network, the company has tirelessly worked on enhancing its network this year to 100G.

With the aim of working towards the digital transformation of Pakistan, the organization has embarked upon a comprehensive transformation project to upgrade top 100 exchanges nationwide, enabling customers to enjoy the unlimited & reliable high-speed Internet. PTCL’s major customer base has been positively impacted by NTP with customer complaints being reduced to 43% in the areas where the exchanges have been upgraded. Through a transformed network, PTCL can provide a faster connection (up to 50mbps) with the improved copper network and even more so with the fiber network (up to 100mbps). PTCL is upgrading its existing copper network to a faster and better fiber network, along with rehabilitation of existing network where required.

For businesses, the organization offers enterprise grade platforms such as Smart Cloud, Tier-3 Certified Data Centers, Managed Services and Satellite Services, all of which have been designed to meet the connectivity needs of businesses within the country and enable them to operate more efficiently. The company has introduced the country’s first truly flexible & agile enterprise grade cloud solution. PTCL Smart Cloud provides maximum security compliance for the data stored, which is hosted within the country for minimum downtime and maximum performance. Public cloud infrastructure, software solution and platforms are known as the most developed domains in ICT services. Access to these services is possible through Data Center that requires significantly lesser investment and operational expenses.

PTCL was one of the first companies to launch Smart TV with its range of entertainment services in Pakistan. With over 120 live TV channels and 11,000+ hours of entertainment content via its Video-on-Demand service, PTCL’s Smart TV service has been made available in more than 150 cities across the country. The organization was also the first telecom operator in Pakistan to provide Netflix gift subscriptions of up to 6 months to PTCL’s internet subscribers of 8 Mbps and above to satisfy the need for quality content.

PTCL strives to build a digitally connected Pakistan and as a responsible major telecom player in the market provides value to its customers, partners, and stakeholders.
