A fiery exchange took place on Wednesday during a meeting of the Senate Committee on Underdeveloped Areas, when Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman accused Awami National Party (ANP) leader Senator Aimal Wali Khan of being under the influence of hashish.
The confrontation escalated after the PTA Chairman allegedly made a sarcastic remark toward Aimal Wali, saying, “You look like you came after smoking hashish,” and even added, “Give me a hashish cigarette too.”
The comment sparked outrage from Senator Aimal Wali, who physically confronted the PTA Chairman and demanded to know how a government official could make such an accusation. Calling the remark unacceptable, Aimal Wali questioned who gave the Chairman the audacity to speak in such a manner.
In response, the PTA Chairman admitted his mistake and repeatedly apologized. Senator Aimal Wali then urged the committee to take disciplinary action, stating, “Either he stays in the meeting, or I will.” Ultimately, the PTA Chairman was asked to leave the session.
Committee Chairman Agha Shahzeb Durrani condemned the behavior, stating that the PTA Chairman had not only disrespected a senator but also the entire committee.
