Prime Minister directs for inquiry into Sahiwal encounter

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan contacted Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Saturday and sought a report in connection with Sahiwal incident.

The Prime Minister also directed to hold a transparent and detailed inquiry into the incident to find the facts.

Inspector General of Punjab Police, Amjad Javed Salimi, has constituted a four-member Joint Investigation Team to investigate the killing of four persons in Sahiwal in an alleged encounter by the Counter-Terrorism Department

According to Police, the Joint Investigation Team will be headed by DIG Zulfiqar Hameed.

Officers of intelligence agencies would also be members of the JIT.

Meanwhile, under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister, the Counter Terrorism Department personnel, involved in a suspicious encounter in Sahiwal, have been taken into custody.

The Chief Minister has also directed Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Sahiwal to provide all necessary medical facilities to the injured and contact the bereaved family members.
