Nawaz Sharif handed 7 years imprisonment

LAHORE – Accountability Court today allowed Punjab Police to meet former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif for taking his statement in Model Town incident 2014.

Judge Arshad Malik conducted hearing on a plea filed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Muhammad Iqbal seeking court permission to visit Nawaz Sharif in Kot Lakhpat Jail regarding the matter.

During hearing, the DSP informed the court that he wanted to meet former prime minister in jail regarding the investigation of Model Town incident.

However, NAB prosecutor Mirza Usman opposed the request and pleaded that accountability court is not the proper forum to seek such permission.

He said the petitioner should move to Islamabad High Court in this regard as it os a relevant forum for such cases.
