Islamabad, April 20, 2026 — The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Parliamentary Board has begun its crucial meeting to finalise candidates for the 2026 general elections of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly.

The 23-member parliamentary board is being chaired by PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, who is leading the process of selecting suitable candidates for the upcoming polls. The board is tasked with evaluating and shortlisting party nominees for various constituencies across Gilgit-Baltistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif were among the senior leaders who welcomed Nawaz Sharif upon his arrival for the meeting. The session reflects the party’s high-level focus on strengthening its electoral strategy in the region.
Senior party leadership including Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Khawaja Saad Rafique, and PML-N Gilgit-Baltistan President Hafeez-ur-Rehman are participating in the deliberations. Prominent figures such as Senator Pervez Rashid, Rana Sanaullah Khan, Maryam Aurangzeb, Anusha Rahman, Captain (R) Muhammad Safdar, and Chaudhry Barjees Tahir are also present.
According to party sources, the board is carefully reviewing political profiles, electoral strengths, and public support of potential candidates to ensure strong representation in the upcoming elections. The meeting is part of broader efforts to consolidate the party’s position in Gilgit-Baltistan ahead of the 2026 polls.
The discussions are expected to continue until final nominations are approved, with the leadership aiming to present a competitive and unified ticket lineup for the legislative elections.
