Islamabad, April 7, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unwavering solidarity and support” for Saudi Arabia following Iran’s missile and drone attacks on the Al Jubail petrochemical complex in the Eastern Province.
Iran Rejects US Ceasefire, Escalating Middle East Tensions and Energy Crisis
During a telephone call with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, PM Shehbaz condemned the attacks and assured the kingdom that Pakistan would stand “shoulder to shoulder” with Saudi Arabia, just as the kingdom has supported Pakistan in the past. He also lauded the “wisdom and restraint” shown by Saudi leadership amid the crisis.
The Prime Minister updated the crown prince on Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East, which have intensified since US-Israeli strikes in February that killed Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed condolences for lives lost, strongly deplored the attacks on critical infrastructure, and termed the strikes a “serious violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” that threatens regional peace.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s military leadership, during the 274th Corps Commanders’ Conference, also condemned the attacks as “unnecessary escalation” that could undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts. Pakistan continues to play a key role as a mediator, hosting high-level talks with Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt to promote stability in the region.
