NEW YORK: A 25-member delegation from the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) has begun an extensive visit to the United States aimed at strengthening Pakistan-US rice trade relations and securing long-term retail partnerships for Pakistani rice products.

The delegation is visiting the United States from May 7 to May 16, 2026, under the auspices of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and the Ministry of Commerce Pakistan as part of the government’s broader Rice Marketing Strategy.

The trade mission commenced its activities in New York City, where Pakistan’s Trade Mission arranged high-level meetings in Queens between the REAP delegation and leading US-based rice importers, distributors, and retailers.

Discussions focused on market requirements, pricing trends, quality standards, regulatory compliance, and opportunities for expanding commercial cooperation between the two countries.

During the meetings, the Chairman of REAP highlighted the superior quality, consistency, and international compliance standards of Pakistani rice, particularly premium Basmati varieties, which are globally recognised for their excellence and low rejection rates in international markets.

US importers and retailers appreciated the quality and competitiveness of Pakistani rice and expressed strong interest in expanding trade ties with Pakistan.

According to officials, ongoing trade frictions involving India in the US market have created a significant opportunity for Pakistani exporters to strengthen their market position. Buyers are reportedly seeking reliable alternatives to Indian rice supplies, providing Pakistan with a strategic advantage.

The delegation has also been tasked with securing permanent shelf space for Pakistani rice products in major retail chains across the United States.

In the evening, the Pakistan Trade Mission hosted a networking dinner at the Consulate General of Pakistan New York, attended by more than 25 rice importers and business representatives from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

The event served as a platform for business-to-business engagement and detailed discussions on enhancing bilateral trade and investment in the rice sector.

Officials said the US visit is part of a larger global marketing campaign by the Ministry of Commerce and TDAP to expand Pakistan’s rice exports into key international markets.

Additional trade delegations are planned for Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Philippines, while promotional roadshows are also being prepared for West African and East African markets.

Pakistan remains one of the world’s leading suppliers of premium-quality rice and continues efforts to strengthen its international market presence through proactive trade diplomacy and targeted export strategies.
