Karachi: Pakistan is set for more rainfall across many regions of the country in the next 24 hours after the recent rains have brought some measure of relief to some areas including Karachi.

During the night of Saturday, Karachi received light to moderate rains along with thunderstorms, thus providing some relief to the city after extremely hot and humid days. Rainfall was reported in some parts such as Clifton, II Chundrigar Road, Saddar, Malir Colony, Landhi, Garden, and Naya Nazimabad, which will help residents of the areas.

Chief Meteorologist Dr. Sardar Sarfaraz explained that this rain system will move northward from south and almost all areas of Karachi will be hit with a good deal of rain. Some of the showers might slightly affect the weather but the temperatures are expected to be between 38-40 degree Celsius and relative humidity at 76%, as predicted by the Met Office.

According to the PMD, scattered rain, windstorms, and thundershowers are expected in various parts of the country in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, central and southern Punjab, Sindh, northeast and south Balochistan, Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Pothohar region. Moderate to high precipitation is expected in a few pockets of south Punjab, northeast Balochistan, and southeast/upper Sindh during this period.

The government has urged people to be cautious as there are possibilities for flash floods and urban flooding due to such rainfall. The NDMA warned of the possibility of higher water levels in local nullahs and potential urban flooding.

The Director General of the Met Office, Mehar Sahibzada Khan, appealed to the public to exercise caution until July 21 and avoid visiting hilly areas vulnerable to landslides such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) also warned of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (Glof) in the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan because of increasing temperature and incessant rain up to July 23.
