Pakistan Condemns UAE Attacks, Calls for Ceasefire as Gulf Tensions Escalate

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday strongly condemned the recent missile and drone attacks targeting civilian infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), expressing unwavering solidarity with the Emirati leadership and its people during a time of heightened regional tensions.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the prime minister said Pakistan stands firmly with “our Emirati brothers and sisters” and fully supports the government of UAE President Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He emphasized the urgent need to maintain and respect the existing ceasefire to create diplomatic space for dialogue aimed at achieving long-term peace and stability in the Gulf region.

The condemnation follows reports from the UAE on Monday confirming that it had come under Iranian strikes, including an ???? on the strategically significant Fujairah energy hub. The attack reportedly injured three Indian nationals, raising international concern over the safety of civilians and critical infrastructure.

Fujairah holds particular importance as a key oil export terminal located outside the Strait of Hormuz, offering one of the few routes for Middle Eastern oil shipments that bypass the narrow and often volatile waterway. Disruptions in this area have significant implications for global energy markets and maritime trade.

Describing the incident as a “dangerous escalation” and an “unacceptable transgression,” the UAE’s foreign ministry stated that the country reserves the right to respond. Meanwhile, Iranian state television reported that military officials confirmed the strikes were carried out in response to what it described as “US military adventurism” in the region.

The latest attacks have disrupted a period of relative calm in the UAE that followed a Pakistani-mediated ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, which came into effect on April 8 after over a month of intense military confrontation in the Gulf.

This is not the first time Fujairah’s energy infrastructure has been targeted. A previous drone attack on March 14 struck the Port of Fujairah, causing fires and forcing a temporary suspension of some oil-loading operations.

Reacting to the developments, India also condemned the attacks and stressed the importance of maintaining uninterrupted access to the Strait of Hormuz. Indian foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and emphasized the need to protect civilian lives and infrastructure.

He further urged all parties to ensure “free and unimpeded navigation and commerce” through the vital maritime corridor in accordance with international law, adding that India stands ready to support efforts toward a peaceful resolution.

The unfolding situation has raised global alarm, with multiple countries calling for restraint and renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation in an already fragile region.
