DUBAI- Daryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson partnered strongly to drive New Zealand to eight-wickets win against India in T20 World Cup here at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

Set to chase 111 runs, New Zealand’s skipper Williamson and Mitchell carried their team to a comfortable chase in the end. The two batters scored 72 runs for New Zealand as they notched their first victory in the event.

Mitchell fell just a run short to his fifty off 35 balls including four boundaries and three sixes. Williamson remained not out for 33 laced with three boundaries.

Jasprit Bumrah was the only wicket-taker for India as he finished with 2-19.

While bowling first, Trent Boult bagged three followed by Ish Sodhi’s two wickets helped the Black Caps restrict India to 110-7 in 20 overs.

Sent into bat first, the Indian batting line was completely speechless against the confident bowling attack of New Zealand.

Boult started the proceedings by removing Ishan Kishan in third over. Thereafter, India kept losing wickets after regular intervals. KL Rahul scored 18 runs whereas Rohit Sharma made 14.

Rishabh Pant made 12 followed by Ravindra Jadeja scoring fighting 26 laced with two boundaries and a six. Pandya also contributed 23.

For New Zealand, Boult and Sodhi were followed by Tim Southee and Adam Milne taking a wicket each.
