KARACHI: Mondelez Pakistan has partnered with the Network of Organizations Working with Persons with Disabilities (NOWPDP) to launch a culinary skills training program for persons with disabilities.

Moreover, the initiative aims to promote inclusion, economic empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods. It was launched at NOWPDP’s Center of Excellence for Disability Inclusion in Karachi.
Focus on practical training
In the first phase, the program will train 20 participants with disabilities. Specifically, it will teach cooking, baking, and basic culinary techniques.
In addition, the program aims to prepare participants for jobs in cafés, restaurants, and the hospitality sector. It also supports those who want to start their own food businesses.
Furthermore, organizers designed the training to include participants with physical, hearing, speech, and visual disabilities.
Skill development and employability
Besides cooking skills, the curriculum includes food safety, kitchen practices, teamwork, and confidence building. As a result, participants gain both technical and soft skills.
Moreover, organizers say these skills improve long-term employability in the food industry. They also help participants build confidence for independent careers.

Speaking on the partnership, Usama Majeed, Head of Corporate and Government Affairs at Mondelez Pakistan, said the company supports equal opportunity and inclusive growth.
Similarly, he said the program helps individuals from underrepresented communities gain skills for sustainable employment.
Meanwhile, Maaz Tanveer, General Manager Development at NOWPDP, said the collaboration supports a more inclusive Pakistan. He added that culinary training can create pathways for creativity and entrepreneurship.
