TEHRAN: Masoud Pezeshkian has said Iran will not retreat from the rights of its people or compromise its national interests, insisting that Tehran rejected any demands imposed by its adversaries during negotiations with the United States.

Speaking during a meeting with scholars at a seminary in Qom, the Iranian president said the government had pursued talks with Washington from a position of “dignity and strength” while seeking to safeguard the country’s interests, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.

Responding to questions about the negotiations, Pezeshkian said the Islamic Republic would not abandon the rights of its people, its core principles or its national interests under any circumstances. He added that Iran’s strength rested on “God Almighty, the people and the leadership” of the country.

The president said every stage of the negotiations took place within the framework of the Islamic Republic’s official policies and in full coordination with the country’s leadership and legal institutions.

Pezeshkian also criticised political factions that, he said, had sought to undermine the negotiating team through public criticism and by questioning national decisions. He argued that such actions risked weakening what he described as the achievements of the negotiations.

His remarks come amid continued regional tensions and international scrutiny of Iran’s diplomatic engagement with the United States.
